Ellie McCann

As the current Editor of Machinery magazine and The Student Engineer, and previous reporter for The Engineer UK, I have multiple years of experience writing reactive news and longer-form feature content for specialist technology audiences.

I have experience in independently curating entire print editions, ideating and editing digital projects, undertaking research and interviews on a range of complex topics, and attending and helping to organise large industry events. 

Particularly as the first female editor of Machinery, I have a passion for covering impactful topics including Equality, Diversity and Inclusion (ED&I); sustainability; technology; people and places; and the policy affecting all of these things.  

I have a first class English Literature degree from Newcastle University, and received a Gold Standard NCTJ Level 4 Diploma in Magazine Journalism in 2024.
